Outdoor fabric sourcing guide
Polyester vs Nylon Fabric for Outdoor Jackets
Compare polyester and nylon by hand feel, strength, moisture response, cost and common outdoor jacket use.
Polyester
Polyester is widely used for outdoor jacket fabrics because it offers stable dimensions, good colorfastness and broad cost and finishing options. It also works well in stretch woven, bonded and laminated constructions.
Nylon
Nylon is often selected when a softer hand feel or high strength at a lighter weight is important. The exact performance still depends on yarn size, density, weave and finishing—not fiber name alone.
How to choose
Begin with the garment target: weight, expected abrasion, hand feel, stretch, price and weather protection. A tested fabric sample is more useful than choosing only from a general comparison of fiber types.
