Difference Between PU Coating and TPU Lamination
Understand how coating and membrane lamination differ in structure, feel, performance targets and sourcing questions.
PU coating
A PU coating is applied directly to the fabric surface or back. It can provide water resistance or waterproofing with a comparatively simple construction, although feel and durability vary by formulation and process.
TPU lamination
TPU lamination bonds a membrane to a face fabric, and sometimes to a backing fabric as a third layer. It is commonly used when buyers need a defined laminated structure for shell, softshell or rainwear applications.
The buyer checklist
Confirm whether the product is coated, two-layer laminated or three-layer laminated. Ask for membrane type, total weight, width, intended use and tested waterproof or breathability values for the exact lot or approved sample.
Discuss your actual fabric brief.
